At the Lunar Economy Summit in Turin, as part of the broader Aerospace & Defence Meetings, Giuseppe Reibaldi, President of the Moon Village Association, put it plainly: “𝘐𝘧 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘥, 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘶𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮.”
This has reinforced Forbes-Space's recent posts about traditional mining industries and the need for unified commercial leadership for the Moon - yet the space sector continues reinventing processes that our terrestrial industries perfected generations ago.

The panel noted that space companies are often trying to reinvent the wheel rather than partner with established Earth-based industries. We have centuries of industrial processes already refined - why rebuild them from scratch in space?
𝟐. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐩
Lee Steinke from CisLunar Industries highlighted that the lack of commercial infrastructure may explain why major European companies haven’t entered lunar markets. Without power, ISRU, and communications networks in place, we’re expecting industries to pioneer without the basic scaffolding they need.
𝟑. 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐫
Nicola Pizzolorusso from Telespazio emphasised that regulation should enable, not control. Transparent frameworks and government procurement can stimulate investment, but overregulation before markets form will stifle the innovation we need.

The shift from heroic missions to sustainable, scalable infrastructure won’t happen until we bring European mining, energy, construction and other non-space expertise to the table. Europe has the industrial depth to lead this transition - if we create enabling frameworks rather than protective barriers.
